Poetry by Anisa Tavares

to you: a love letter

a love where we kiss at every red light
a love where you stay a little while longer
and you beg me to do the same

a love that caters to me and my needs
as much as i give and give unto you
a love that doesn’t feel wrestled into your heart
a love that fits like an ever longing puzzle piece

a love where you think of me
half as much as i do you
because i am burdened with a writer’s curse
if thinking too much for my own good

a love where you’d choose me over everybody else
above everything and anything else
until what exists is only you and me together

a love that lasts for an eternity
and doesn’t make me feel ill for sticking around that long

a love that years for my presence
and doesn’t blacken it with feelings of burden
and ill contempt
a love where i am your first and foremost
and yours forever more
